Cholesterol and Glucose Screening
High cholesterol is one of the major risk factors for coronary heart disease. Highly recommended, this testing procedure includes total cholesterol (TC), HDL (good cholesterol), LDL (bad cholesterol), TC/HDL ratio, triglyceride and glucose measurements. The test requires a finger prick and the results are available in less than 5 minutes.
Blood Pressure Screening
High blood pressure, or hypertension, may be considered a "silent killer" because it has no outward signs or symptoms but contributes to significant health conditions including premature death, heart attacks, renal insufficiency and stroke.
This screening is generally done in conjunction with a cholesterol screening program giving the individual a more complete cardiac risk assessment.
Body Composition Analysis
Body composition tells you how much of your weight is made up of fat and how much is muscle. A high percentage of body fat increases your risk for obesity, diabetes, heart disease, high cholesterol and other illnesses.
Pulmonary Function Screening
Pulmonary function screenings evaluate and measure how much air and how easily the air moves in and out of your lungs. The results of this screening will help determine if you have any potential problems with your lungs and can help diagnose lung disease such as asthma, emphysema or pulmonary fibrosis.
Bone Density Screenings
Bone density tests use special X-rays to measure how many grams of calcium and other bone minerals — collectively known as bone mineral content — are packed into a segment of bone. The higher your mineral content, the denser your bones are. And the denser your bones, the stronger they generally are and the less likely they are to break. Doctors use a bone density test to determine if you have, or are at risk of, osteoporosis.
Bone density testing is a non-invasive procedure and is usually completed in less than one minute. It works by measuring the density of the bone using ultrasound. It compares individual results with research-established norms.
Hepatitis B Screening and Vaccination
Hepatitis B, an infection of the liver that is responsible for one million deaths per year, is 100 times more infectious than HIV. It is particularly prevalent throughout Asia and the Pacific Islands. Without appropriate monitoring or treatment, one in four persons who have the HBV infection will die of liver cancer or liver failure.
Affiliated Physicians is available to administer Hepatitis B screening programs as well Hepatitis B vaccination programs.
